02/27/05 - Oscars and finger puppets

Well, here I am, watching the Oscars and trying to think of something erudite and witty to write, whilst drinking some good champagne that a friend was kind enough to give me for Christmas. In case you haven’t already noticed, I’m failing on the erudite and witty front (I’d like to blame the champagne but it probably has nothing to do with it), so I’ll settle for more of my usual ramblings. Some of my favorite things today are finger puppets, silk pajamas and that wonderful dance video that Christopher Walken did to "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim. So the 2005 Oscars are as hit-and-miss as usual, but at least Chris Rock is funny. Of course "Boston Legal", one of the few shows I actually watch, has been pre-empted so that Barbara Walters can fawn over some B-list celebrities in her usual smarmy, annoying, self-satisfied way, but you can't have everything I guess. Oh, and does anyone know why Beyonce had to sing nearly all the nominated songs instead of the artists who originally performed them? And then the guy who won best song for “The Motorcycle Diaries” was reduced to singing his song a capella into the microphone instead of giving an acceptance speech, presumably because he was miffed about not having been allowed to perform it in the first place! Not famous enough for the Academy I guess… so Antonio Banderas was called in to sing it instead. Pretty sad.

On a happier note, here are my finger puppets. I wanted to spread the joy.

Well, I’m off to write a little more of a song I’m working on before bedtime. Please e mail me if you have any thoughts or favorite things you want to share.
